Q. Who can play?
The Saturday Basketball program is open to every springboro child grade K-6 regardless of skill level. This program is the foundation of the entire program in that, because children develop physically, socially and emotionally at different rates, a child has the opportunity to play and develop skills and confidence without the stress and pressure of travel programs.
Q. When are games?
All games are played on Saturdays. The season typically runs from December through March with breaks for all Holidays.
Q. When are practices?
All teams are given an hour per week to practice before the season starts. Once the season starts teams will be given 30-60 minutes (depending on the number of teams) a week. Days vary due to gym time.
Q. How are teams chosen?
Teams are selected via a draft with the intent of developing equal competition throughout all levels. Teams are broken up by grade and gender. Approximately 600 kids grades K-6 play Saturday basketball. The number of teams at a particular grade level is dependent on the number of kids registered in that grade. In past years we have had approximately 80 teams. Most divisions are seperated by grade and gender (ie, 3rd grade girls, 1st grade boys). In some cases, the number of registrations in a particular grade might be low therefore we have had to combine grades (ie, 5th & 6th Girls).
Q. Can my child be on the same team as another child?
Becuase a draft is used to make up the teams, its just the luck of the draw that this might happen. We can't promise it will happen.
Q. I am planning to coach, can I get my assistants son/daughter on my team?
A coach may protect two players at the draft. This is usually his son/daughter and thier assistants son/daughter
Q. My son/daughter doesnt want to play anymore, can I get a refund?
A. You can recieve a refund up until the draft (which in 2007 was Nov 18th). After that, teams are formed and it might leave the team without enough players.
